Inetmon
iNetmon is a software application that can run on any IBM compatible PC connected to the computer network. It will perform data collection on a LAN segment and analyzes the data. The data is used to perform statistical calculation. The data will be decoded thoroughly and displayed as analyzed information.
iNetmon is a real time network tool used to analyze packets that are crossing an Ethernet network. The workstation/client, which is running iNetmon application, can monitor all the traffic flow in the network without disturbing the network at the same time. It also provides tools for technical control and performance control of the system. The whole system can be viewed as a combined structure with addresses and labels given to each node. Besides that, the specific character of each element and its relation is known to the system.
Packets crossing the workstation also can be collected and decoded in order to find out the information inside the specific packet. The information inside the packet is shown byte to byte in hexadecimal and ASCII code, which provides further details of the packet. iNetmon users are given the choices to view packets according to certain protocols such as TCP/IP, IPX, ARP, NetBios or any other combination of standard Ethernet protocols.
iNetmon application also presents the network bandwidth usage in the form of graph. This feature provides a more user friendly interface to analyze and understand the situation of the network. The shown static graph also enables the user to determine the users of the LAN and who that causes heavy traffic.
